OUR HISTORY
The Cloth Shop
began trading in 1977 selling designer remnant pieces and stretch
fabrics in an upstairs shop in East Ivanhoe. Our unique product soon
became a Melbourne fabric icon and we outgrew our small premises
moving to a large shop in Lower Ivanhoe in 1986. Since that time our
range has grown, now carrying exclusive evening wear fabrics through
to simple cottons. We are ever evolving, keeping up to date with
fashion trends and new fabrics
OUR
RANGE
A great deal of time and effort goes
into collecting the range of fabrics for the shop. We import
exclusive fabrics from Europe, Japan and India, buy from local
suppliers and designers. Each piece is individually chosen for
design and quality to ensure that our clients get a great result
from their purchase.
There is over 6500 rolls of fabrics in store,
with new things arriving every week.
We have the largest selection of jersey and
knit fabrics in Melbourne with a whole room dedicated to them ( we
love stretch sewing!).
Other areas include linen, cotton and cotton
voiles, stretch woven fabrics, wool and synthetic suiting and of
course our evening wear department and if you are looking for
something we have not got in store we are always happy to have a
search for you.
Vogue, Perpetual, Butterick, McCalls and Kwik Sew
Patterns along with a large selection of haberdashery complete the
picture. Anything that you will need to construct a garment from
beginning to end for any occasion.
OUR
SERVICE
All of the staff at the shop have extensive
experience, not only in retailing fabrics but in dressmaking. We can
help you with designing a garment and fabric selection to the
construction and fitting of your garment. Our instore demonstrations
are a must, come in and see how easy and quick sewing can be. We
also offer classes for those that are really keen to learn to sew or
just improve techniques and be up on all the latest products.
In additional we do button covering, machine
repairs, and scissors sharpening.
